Picking a Wine by the Label

Most people I know, myself included, pick a bottle of wine at the store by the design of the bottle and label. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this practice, in fact I think it’s rather fun.

Wine Library TV

Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV enlisted the help of graphic designer Strat Parrott to pick some bottles to taste. While the conversation revolves around the taste of the wine it is interesting to hear a designer talk to a wine expert about the packaging and why he chose those particular bottles.

Below are some bottles that I would certainly pick up at the store based on the design alone (via The Dieline).

For those of you unfamiliar with Wine Library TV, it is a daily video podcast where the energetic and entertaining Vaynerchuk tastes wines and talks about the NY Jets. The internet TV studio Revision3 has recently started taking Vaynerchucks long sprawling video posts and editing them down to 5 minutes or less. They do a nice job of editing and adding appropriate imagery.

    Wow - I’d buy them just to look at - don’t think I’d even bother drinking them!

    I am so glad to hear that I’m not the only one who picks a bottle of wine based on the bottle and label!!

    @Lucinda

    Wine experts and enthusiasts may not like this practice, but the other 99% of us sure do!
